Calling everybody who lives in Wilberfoss who wants to do a bit of gardening!!
We are hoping that a few residents will want to help us this year with our watering and weeding. We have decided not to enter In Bloom again as we have very few "bloomers" available to do the gardening, but if we could get more people to come along and join us we could probably enter again in the future. The main reason we do the floral displays is because we like the village to look lovely not just for the competition.
There is no need to have experience to be a volunteer, or to have great knowledge of plants (we don't ourselves as we are just amateur gardeners who want to keep our village looking tidy and colourful for the enjoyment of everybody). That is what was so rewarding when we won the Gold Award, we are not professionals, just people who like gardening.
Could you help us?
Our borders and planters are still looking good, and a big "thank you" goes to all of you who have been helping with the watering etc. We are happy to give a big welcome to our new lady helpers but where are the guys? We have a few gentlemen who help us every now and again for which we are very grateful, but are wondering where the gardeners are amongst our male residents? There must be a few of you who could help us keep the village looking good.
If you fancy dabbling in a bit of gardening we have regular get togethers, however these times have changed as the night's close in and are as follows:- The first Saturday morning of each month, meeting at Costcutters for 10.00am and the third Tuesday of each month (the first one on the 19th September) meeting outside Costcutters at 10.00 am to noon - weather permitting of course - look out for the notices at the corner of Storking Lane.
We are extremely grateful to the companies and individual businesses who have generously sponsored In Bloom this year. We are organising new planters ready for next year and your support means we can purchase really substantial ones.
