DIY SOS! Calling all DIY enthusiasts...

The PFA need someone to help fit a kitchen in the Sports Club - further details and how to volunteer can be found here.

Bags to School

As you will recall from earlier in the year, the Sports Club had a fantastic response to our Bag2School fundraiser, having raised £700 towards the grand total of£3,000 needed to re-surface the Sports Club car park.  We’re sure that everyone who uses the lane will agree that the re-surfacing has proved to be excellent and if we can secure funds to finish the job we will be delighted.

The Club is planning another collection.  They will collect from you on SUNDAY 4TH NOVEMBER (the day after the Annual Bonfire & Firework display).  In the weeks leading up to the 4th November they will drop a collection bag through your door.  Please ignore the date on the bag – this is when the bags are collected from the Sports Club.  Please leave your bags close to the front boundary of your property from 11.00 am.  Some bags were difficult to spot last time!  If your bag hasn’t been collected by 3.00 pm, please give them a call on 01759 380123 or 07762 549292.  Please feel free to use black bin liners if you have sufficient to fill more than one bag.  Thank you, as always, for your continued support!

October 2012

We bid a fond farewell to Councillor Iain McKechnie, who leaves us having served 4 years as a Councillor.  Iain will be sadly missed and we wish him well for the future.

We welcome Tricia Room and Mike Skelton as our newest members and we will look forward to working with them both.

APOLOGIES AND CORRECTION

February's Newsletter stated that henceforth no bus services will use the A1079 bus stops.  This was an error for which we apologise.

*** The bus services which will no longer use the A1079 bus stops are the 744 and the 746 ***

This is because turning left onto the A1079 at the Pocklington end of the village then immediately into the bus stop is hazardous to traffic coming from the York direction.

WilBEERfest - Saturday 15 September

The 4th Annual WilBEERfest will take place on Saturday 14th September at the Sports Club - see the flier here for details.

Local Development Framework - changes from ERYC

The latest round of the LDF (ERYC consultation on Planning Issues for the next 15 years) was discussed at the PC meeting held on Thu 15 Mar 12.

The consultation was between ERYC and the Parish Council to check basic facts about the potential sites in Wilberfoss Parish.  A response to this fact checking exercise was prepared and is available here

The LDF has now been renamed as the "East Riding Local Plan" - but the important part of the process comes next, when we understand that ERYC will be consulting about the actual proposed areas to be included or excluded from the Local Plan. This will now happen in late 2012/early 2013 (not Summer 2012 asERYC originally planned) and we will be looking to organise a Parish Meeting to discuss this matter fully and to let residents have their say.

Our responses as a Parish Council and other useful information can be found here.

Noticed a funny smell?

You may have recently noticed that there have been odours of tar/asphalt in the air lately. It is believed these may emanate from a mobile plant at the ARUK site over the A1079.  We have been in touch with ERYC and they advise using the attached sheet to records incidents of the smell.  Sheets can then be sent toRowan.Devlin@eastriding.gov.uk who will investigate.

Anyone for (Table) tennis?

Works will shortly be undertaken to brighten up "Teens Corner" on the playground (next to the tennis courts). We plan an all weather table tennis table, funded by the Lottery "Awards for All" programme, plus improvements/repairs to the playground and a Jubilee Memorial Garden funded by the PFA, Parish Council, ERYC and hopefully York Diocese. The end result will be a much more welcoming area for everyone to enjoy.

Maintenance work to the sewerage station off the A1079

Yorkshire Water will be carrying out major works at the sewerage works across the A1079 from September to summer 2013. Any enquiries should be addressed to them (Claire Glavina on 07790 616181). Further plans can be seen here.

Grass Cutting 2012/13

Further to the tendering process undertaken in late December 2011, the tender for the grass cutting for the season 2012/13 has been awarded to York Landscape and Maintenance. The PC would like to thank Kev Treacher at the outgoing Acer Garden Services for his hard work over recent years.

Recent cold weather

In late 2011 the Parish Council received small sum of money from ERYC to help towards extra costs incurred during cold weather. During the recent snowfall we were approached by a member of the public offering his services with a mechanical snow clearer.  Unfortunately when he tried to clear the paths in Wilberfoss, the weather was so cold that the snow had frozen to ice and his machine was not effective. As a result the snow could not be cleared to allow for gritting.

Should the snow return we will endeavour to have it cleared  immediately to allow gritting and to give us the best chance of maintaining safer paths around the village. Of course, the services of snow clearance machines are highly sought after when it snows and we cannot guarantee that this service will be available to us.

As a result, we have obtained guidance from the ERYC Emergency Planning Team about how you can help clear the paths in front of your (and maybe your elderly neighbours') property. Click here to open the document.

Ancient Milestone

The ancient milestone that was on Wilberfoss Hill has, after consultation with the proper authorities, been moved to a more accessible location in the Village.  Thanks to Wilberfoss in Bloom and Alan Hugill of Inturf for their assistance. See here for some pictures. There is also an article in the York Press
